Understanding Roof Leaks and What You Can Do to Avoid Costly Repairs
Why is my roof leaking again?
One of the common questions we hear in the field is, “Why is my roof leaking in the same place? Someone was just out here to fix this same leak?”
So you’ve just had the roofing company out to repair a leak, and the next time it rains you see the same area leaking again inside the building. How could your roof be leaking already? Finding the actual spot where the roof leaks can be difficult because water often enters the roof in one place and runs down to another before it starts soaking into the ceiling.
Why is it so hard to find the source of the leak?
When you see a leak from the inside of the building, it doesn’t necessarily mean the source of the leak is coming from directly above it. In fact, typically it’s not. There are many variables that can cause leaks to travel, such as the water flow on different roof slopes, or double roofs which can leak through the top outer layer and run along the lower roof layer. Even with only one roof, there are layers, barriers, beams, etc. that can also cause the flow of water to travel and pool in a completely different section of the building than where the outside leak is.
What can I do to avoid more roof leaks?
Having a roofing professional walk and scrutinize your entire roof is the best way to identify all areas of concern. And while we are ready, willing and able to do just that, we know the cost for such a thorough review can be an inhibitor in doing the job right. This is particularly true when considering a large roof, or gravel or ballast jobs. But keeping your building leak free is our primary interest, and is the reason Radco offers a complete roof inspection with a report at no charge, if the work provided in the report is awarded to us. We are available for emergency 24 hour service and provide a number of inspection, budgeting, and maintanence services
